Beyond a 2022 news article, no confirmation could be found. A tourism site's own search page lacks any mention of the comedy open mic (checked Aug 31, 2026) [s1]. The venue's own homepage lacks it too, naming only a Tuesday Trivia night [s2]. The venue itself is confirmed thriving, and there is no evidence the comedy series specifically has closed.

A news article, published May 27, 2026 and updated Aug 29, 2026 — two days before the check — describes a currently-running Thursday music and variety open mic at the American Legion (checked Aug 31, 2026) [s1]. The venue's separate comedy open mic is confirmed for Wednesday, Sept 9, 2026 on its own event page [s2]. This shows the two are distinct nights.

The event's own page gives a upcoming instance for Wednesday, September 9, 2026 — nine days after the Aug 31, 2026 check [s1]. This confirms the comedy open mic runs on a different night from the venue's Thursday music and variety open mic.
This listing says Tuesday; the sources behind it describe Monday instead. Only one source reports it.
Call to confirm the night
The sources disagree on the night.
Neither of this venue's two claimed open mics — Tuesday music from 2022, Monday comedy from 2023 — has current corroboration (checked Aug 31, 2026). One source's own data states the Monday comedy series ended Dec 25, 2023 [s1]. A fresh search for the Tuesday host's name turned up only the same original 2022 article [s2].
The first Friday of each month, 5:00 PM. The Venue's Website does not mention it.
A tourism site's own search page lacks any mention of poetry or an open mic (checked Aug 31, 2026) [s1]. The hotel's own events page lacks it too [s2]. The hotel's own homepage shows the same absence [s3]. The hotel itself is confirmed open and operating; the poetry series specifically is simply uncorroborated beyond an earlier lead.
The venue's own events calendar shows 'Open Mic Poetry Night,' hosted by Larry from Durango, ran Thursday, Aug 27, 2026, 5:30-8:00 PM — four days before the Aug 31, 2026 check [s1]. This matches the established fourth-Thursday-monthly pattern. A tourism site names a different contact, Megan Riddle, but that turns out to be the venue's registered business contact, not the event's host [s2].

The venue's own events calendar shows 'Fresh Bits Comedy Open Mic' ran Thursday, Aug 20, 2026, 6:30-9:00 PM — 11 days before the Aug 31, 2026 check [s1]. That instance fell on the third Thursday rather than the usual second Thursday. A tourism site's listing suggests the second-Thursday pattern resumes in September and October, so this reads as a one-month deviation rather than a schedule change [s2].
An event listing site shows 'Open Mic Poetry in the White Rabbit Garden,' hosted by Larry from Durango, ran Saturday, June 6, 2026, 12:00-1:30 PM (checked Aug 31, 2026) [s1]. A local newspaper's feed mentions the same event [s2]. No recurrence is stated, so how often it happens remains unknown.
