How A Good Place for Music collects, uses, and protects your information — including our text-messaging practices.

A Good Place for Music (the brand and DBA of Good Place for Music, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, EIN 41-2694067) (“AGPFM,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the website agoodplaceformusic.org. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using our website or services, you agree to this policy.

Information We Collect

We collect only what we need to provide our services:

  • Contact details — your name, email address, and phone number when you register a listing, contact us, become a member, or purchase a ticket.
  • Artist listing information — performer name, bio, genres, instruments, links, and photos or media you choose to upload.
  • Membership & donation records — membership tier, donation history, and event/ticket records.
  • Payment information — card payments are processed by our payment provider (Stripe). We do not store your full card number.
  • Messages — the content of contact-form submissions and correspondence you send us.
  • Comments — comments you post on venue and open-mic listings (shown publicly with your name).
  • Bookings & tips — studio booking requests and livestream tips.
  • Text & email choices — your preferences, a record of each consent and opt-out, and your unsubscribe history.
  • Technical data — basic log and session information needed to keep you signed in and to secure the site, and an anonymous ID used to count free plays and previews.

How We Use Your Information

  • To provide our services: artist listings, event ticketing, memberships, livestreams, and donations.
  • To verify your identity and keep your account secure (including one-time login codes and sign-in links).
  • To respond to your inquiries and correction requests.
  • To send account email (tickets, receipts, sign-in) and, unless you untick them or unsubscribe, Live now emails, Studio update emails and event invites.
  • To send only the text messages you opted in to.
  • To screen comments and sort messages sent to us, and to notify a venue’s members when their listing gets a comment.
  • To process donations and payments.
  • To comply with legal obligations.

SMS/Text Messaging & Mobile Data

When you provide your mobile number and opt in, A Good Place for Music (Good Place for Music) sends the text messages you chose. Each program has its own consent:

  • Account messages — login and verification codes, ticket confirmations and event-day reminders, studio booking confirmations and reminders, and booking-request notices to listed artists. Frequency varies.
  • Live now alerts — when a livestream starts. Up to 5 msgs/month.
  • Studio updates — upcoming shows, open mics and member offers. Up to 5 msgs/month.
  • Staff alerts — for staff who signed a consent form. Frequency varies.

Message and data rates may apply. You opt in by checking a Text box (never pre-checked), or by texting START, JOIN, ALERTS, SUBSCRIBE, YES or UNSTOP to our number. Available to U.S. and Canadian mobile numbers. Live now alerts and Studio updates are sent only between 8 am and 9 pm Eastern. The first time you turn on texts from your account, we text a code to confirm the number is yours.

What we keep: your mobile number; a record of each consent and opt-out (the time, where you gave it, the exact wording you agreed to, your IP address and browser); and a log of the messages we sent you and their delivery status.

You can opt out at any time by replying STOP (this stops all our texts, including login codes by text), or change or stop each program at agoodplaceformusic.org/text-alerts or in your account settings; reply HELP for help, or contact us at info@agoodplaceformusic.org / 518-339-0782.

No mobile information (including your phone number and SMS opt-in/consent) will be sold, rented, or shared with any third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Phone numbers are shared only with our SMS provider (Twilio) solely to deliver the messages you requested, and as required by law. Text-messaging opt-in data is not shared with any third parties for any purpose.

How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with trusted service providers who help us operate the site, and only as needed to perform their service:

  • Twilio — delivery of text messages.
  • Stripe — payment processing.
  • Resend — transactional email.
  • Cloudinary — hosting of uploaded photos and media.
  • Railway — website and database hosting.
  • Mux — video and livestream hosting.
  • Anthropic — automated screening of comments and sorting of messages we receive.
  • Google Maps — maps on open-mic pages.

We may also disclose information when required by law or to protect our rights, users, or the public.

Cookies & Sessions

We use essential cookies to keep you signed in, secure the site, count free plays, and remember HD passes. We use no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. Embedded players and maps (YouTube, Vimeo, Spotify, SoundCloud, Bandcamp, Google Maps) come from those companies and follow their own policies.

Data Retention & Security

We keep personal information only as long as needed to provide our services and meet legal and record-keeping obligations, and we take reasonable measures to protect it. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

An open mic search that uses "My location" stores only the area it ran from, rounded to about a kilometre, with no account, name or address attached.

Your Choices & Rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information, and you may opt out of notifications at any time: reply STOP to texts; use the unsubscribe link in any optional email (one email type, all non-essential email, or all non-essential notifications including Live now and Studio update texts); change your choices in your account under Texts & email; or contact us. Account emails (tickets, receipts, sign-in) continue while you have an account. Venue and open-mic listings may include business contact details from public sources — use the listing’s Correct or Claim link, or contact us, to fix or remove them. Children's Privacy

Our services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date above reflects the most recent version.
