Open Mics in Reno, NV

A listing on openmikes.org lists this night, but may not be current.

An online search confirms 'The Cellar Stage at Alturas Bar' is a real, currently operating basement music venue, but a ticketing site showed no matching scheduled events (as of Aug 2026). No venue-owned site or 2026-dated source confirms this Monday open mic; the only support is an open-mic listing site.

The venue is reported to host weekly open mic comedy nights in general terms, but no source specifies Thursday or the 8:30 PM start time listed here (as of Aug 2026). The venue's social media page could not be checked directly.

An open-mic listing site's page for this venue shows a genuinely progressive series of forward dates -- Aug 19, 26, Sep 2, 9, and 16, 2026 -- consistent with real ongoing operation rather than a repeated placeholder (as of Aug 2026). No venue-owned website could be located to confirm it.

Weekly on Sundays, 8:00 PM. Only one source reports it.

An open-mic listing site is the only place this Sunday open mic appears, and the same entry shows up under more than one of that site's categories, which does not mean there is more than one event (as of Aug 2026). No other source describes the event or its format; a karaoke mention found nearby is unrelated.

The fourth Wednesday of each month, 6:30 PM. Only one source reports it.

The venue's own page, last updated May 19, 2026, confirms a recurring Wednesday jam program, including a fourth-Wednesday 'Blues & Old School Country Jam Session' starting at 6:00 (checked Aug 14, 2026) [s1]. This is a probable match for a listing site's '4th Wednesday Songwriter Open Mic' at 6:30, but the venue frames it as a genre-specific jam rather than an open-mic showcase, and the two times differ by half an hour.

The sources disagree about whether it still runs.

Weekly on Tuesdays, 7:00 PM. The Venue's Website does not mention it.

The theater's own website does not mention any poetry or open mic (checked Aug 14, 2026) [s1]. Its events page says the same [s2]. No other source has ever corroborated a poetry night here; this may be a mix-up with a well-documented, different Monday Night Poetry event at a different Reno venue.

The event's own website carries a post dated Jan 19, 2026, about seven months earlier, describing its ongoing collaboration with the host venue (checked Aug 14, 2026) [s1]. An earlier post, Aug 31, 2025, thanks the venue by name for 'being host venue' for a 2025 Best Open Mic award [s2]. The host Venue's Website confirms 'Open Mic Poetry' as a maintained category, with a calendar set for Aug-Sep 2026 [s3].

Weekly on Thursdays, 5:00 PM. The Venue's Website does not mention it.

The university's own Honors College events page, fully checked, does not mention this program by name (checked Aug 14, 2026) [s1]. Since the check falls before the fall semester begins, the page may simply not yet be populated for the new term, rather than showing the program has ended.
